For me, the change in season also means I say goodbye to all my brightly coloured lipsticks and out comes the darker shades. I think subconsciously I'm trying to match my lips to the darkening evenings so expect to see me hanging round in pitch black lipstick come December!
NYX High Voltage - Dahlia |
Anyways, I've decided to compile a list of my favourite lipsticks for Autumn, all of which you can find in most pharmacies nationwide (including Finnertys Pharmacy, Nenagh) and won't break the bank!
Maybelline Color Sensational in Berry Bossy (886) Vivid Vixen (890), Sapphire Siren (835) €9.99
Maybelline's Color Sensational collections never fail to impress me. They're easy to apply due to the precise shape of the lipstick and its perfected formula. These colours - part of the Loaded Bolds collection - give a burst of colour while staying in-season.
Typically I don't like lipgloss. They're sticky and provide little colour but L'OrΓ©al's latest glosses are an exception. Not only is it incredibly pigmented but it also has a small percentage of Hyaluronic Acid - one of the main ingredients in lip fillers. It also has a unique wand for application that makes application easy.
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Grand Cru (08) €12.99
If you prefer a more glossy look for a red-lip, then Bourjois Grand Cru is the lipstick for you. It stays shiny (almost latex-like) without being sticky and although it comes with a lipgloss applicator, it wears more like a lipstick.
NYX Lingerie in Teddy (10) €9.00
They've been compared to Kylie's lip-kits (have a read of a more in-depth comparison done by fellow blogger KasieBeauty here ) and I absolutely adore them. They dry to a matte without completely drying out your lips and the flat wand makes application easy. I would recommend a balm for in between applications if you hate the feeling of matte lipsticks.
NYX High Voltage lipstick in Dahlia (09) €7.75
Although I love the colour of this lipstick, the formula is very wet. It applies too easily to the lips, meaning mistakes are inevitable unless you're careful when applying; ideally. opt for a lip brush when applying. It also needs a lot of re-applying due to the intense colour so ensure you carry it in your handbag.
**Some things to consider with darker shades**
1.) Darker lips shades can make lips appear thinner so consider over-lining the lips with a lipliner before application.
2.) Carry your darker shades like an extra limb. You will reapply twice as much than more natural shades.
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts on these shades and whether you're excited for Autumn so leave me a comment below!
