This week, my lovely Focus (her name is Lolita by the way), had to take a trip to the garage so I spent the best part of this week without a car. I've been driving since September and it wasn't until I was without that I realised how much I rely on my car. I had to walk to work - thank God I only live 20 mins away - and I even had to take the bus into college one day; something I definitely don't miss since getting a car. Being without Lolita made me realise how limited people without cars are and how they're missing out on seeing some beautiful parts of Ireland that can only be accessed by driving to them. One of those places is Lough Gur; situated in the countryside of Limerick between Herbertstown and Bruff.

The thing I think you'll enjoy most about Lough Gur is that it's suited for everyone. The trails winding around the lake are mostly flat and easy to walk. For those wanting a challenge Knockadoon Hill, where the lake stretches around, is perfect. The fairy trails provide excitement for kids of all ages with cute signs, pictured below, creating an atmosphere that you are in the midst of a forest, and not 30 minutes away from the city.

The views around Lough Gur are breathtaking, further enhanced by the archaeological remains. There are tower remains, crannogs and numerous megalithic sites that are exciting to see, even if you're not that big into history. And if you are into history there are plenty of information boards around the walk to give you a better insight into the remains.
Best of all? Walking around the grounds of Lough Gur is completely free. There's even picnic benches dotted throughout the walk so you can bring a picnic. Make sure you pack some bread because there's plenty of ducks - and sometimes swans - swimming around.
That's it for yet another Spotlight Sunday. And what better way to end it than with a photo from Lough Gur of my best friend's baby, looking like he's starting a fight???
